Since it was first introduced all the way back in 1995, the Honda CR-V has been turning heads. Now in its fifth generation, having won numerous awards throughout the years – including a couple of incredibly prestigious Motor Trend awards, the 2021 Honda CR-V is poised and ready to continue its quarter-century of dominance in the compact crossover segment. Fresh off a mid-generation facelift, and now featuring its very own hybrid counterpart, the CR-V here in St. John’s, NL is better than ever.
As mentioned, as of last year the Honda CR-V Hybrid has joined the lineup. Mostly the same as the traditional CR-V, it is underpinned by a hybrid powertrain that delivers improved efficiency.
With the new CR-V Hybrid now available, the 2021 Honda CR-V is available in seven trim level/powertrain configurations. The LX trim level is only available with the traditional gas-powered engine, while the EX, EX-L and Touring trim levels are available with either. When equipped with the two-wheel drive system, regardless of trim level, the gas-powered CR-V models achieve 28 miles per gallon through the city and 34 mpg on the highway, for a combined rating of 30 mpg.
Upgrading to the all-wheel drive system only hits fuel economy slightly, dropping city driving to 27 mph and highway to 32 mpg for a combined 29 mpg. However, the CR-V Hybrid achieves 40 mph through the city and 35 on the highway, for a combined 38 mpg rating. The gas-powered CR-V models are able to generate 190 horsepower, whereas, perhaps surprisingly, the CR-V Hybrid generates a total system output of 212 horsepower.
Of course, there’s much more to the 2021 Honda CR-V and CR-V Hybrid than just fuel economy. They are spacious vehicles packed full of great content and technologies, including the Honda Sensing suite of driver-assistive safety features.
